On the 5th of October the Volkshochschule im Landkreis Cham e.V. welcomed the Italian and Spanish guests to Cham for the third “Market Yourself through CLIL“ mobility. Two staff members and four learners from both Cross Boundaries in Caserta, Italy and Escuela Oficial de Idiomas Do Mundo Lume in Ayamonte, Spain took part in the mobility which included three workshops to the following topics: Digitelling, Prezi and Languages in Media. During the three-day mobility learners were asked to take pictures during cultural events and then tell a story in English about their visit while using Prezi, a cloud-based presentation software and storytelling tool.
The first day concluded with a traditional dinner of seasonal, local Upper-Palatinate dishes. The dinner began with a welcome from the mayor of Cham, Karin Bucher. The evening concluded with an educational musical performance by Hans Wax a promoter for regional heritage from the Bezirk Oberpfalz. Guests learned German and cultural information about the Upper Palitnate region through songs and dance. The musical performance went on to inspire both the Spanish and Italian partners to perform a traditional song.
On the final day, learners were able to utilise the language learning platform LiMe – Languages in Media. Learners visited both the German and English platforms and the partners were able to access the teacher area of the platform in order to collect ideas for upcoming language courses. Following the workshop learners presented stories about their visit to the Upper Palatinate. After the presentations, the VHS Cham presented the partners and the learners with their certificates of participation.
During the learners‘ workshops the partners were able to meet and discuss best practices of CLIL from across Europe. The best practices will be collocated into a handbook and presented during a final event in Caserta, Italy. The partners made plans for the final one-day event to promote the outcomes of CLIL which will include experts, educational policy makers, stakeholders and language teachers at the beginning of May.
